Some people are saying, “Why use American power to attack a sovereign nation (Iran) at this time, while they are thousands of miles away from us?” That is a good question, deserving of a thoughtful answer.
An Indirect and Direct Threat
Although Iran may not be able to directly attack the United States at this time, Iran has demonstrated its capability to rain down terror and havoc on the Middle East, Central Asia, and parts of Eastern Europe. Those areas constitute population centers numbering in the hundreds of millions. Moreover, Iran most certainly has the resources and willingness to threaten US military bases in these areas as well.
Israeli and American intelligence have confirmed that Iran was weeks away from developing a nuclear weapon, which, if we turned a blind eye, they most certainly would use against Israel as well as other nations. In the aftermath of “Operation Midnight Hammer” back in June of 2025, when the US and Israel dealt a severe blow to Iran in taking out its then-existing nuclear threat, Iran was warned never again to restart its uranium enrichment efforts towards the development of weapons-grade material. They ignored this warning, and in negotiations with the US feigned a willingness to talk, but their actions belied their words, so typical of how Iran has conducted itself over the last 47 years.
President Trump’s patience wore thin. He sought peace, but the theocrats in Iran attempted to procrastinate and deceive the West. As a consequence, President Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu decided that it was time to dismantle Iran’s capabilities on a more permanent basis. The order was given to launch strikes from sea, air, and land to obliterate Iran’s ability to make war and continue its reputation as the single largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world…a reputation well earned over the past forty seven years.
Bringing Peace to the Region
The major impetus for utilizing Israeli and American air, sea, and land power in Operation Epic Fury clearly was to cripple this rogue state’s ability to harm its neighbors as well as its own people, and to finally obliterate Iran’s ability to develop a nuclear weapon, which it most certainly would use against an American ally in the Middle East, the State of Israel. Thus far, six days into military operations, the results have been nothing short of spectacular, a testament to superior planning, training, and execution. The Iranian Republican Guard (IRG) has been crippled, its Navy sitting at the bottom of the sea, and its nuclear program totally dismantled. Attention now will turn to crippling Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen. When that is accomplished, for the first time in history, the region can lay claim to peaceful co-existence, as envisioned by President Trump when he introduced the Abraham Accords during his first term.
However, there are other important, but less obvious, reasons for launching Operation Epic Fury. For decades, the theocrats in Iran have made murdering Americans among their highest priorities. And they have done so with impunity during this time. This alone justifies the action President Trump has taken against Iran.
Ties to Our Adversaries
In truth, Iran was no real threat to American primacy on the global stage until it turned its attention to partnering with China and Russia as its economic lifeline. As much as 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports go directly to China, processed through a network of Chinese refineries that operate beyond the reach of American sanctions enforcement. Beijing was also arming Iran with systems specifically designed to threaten commercial and military assets. And Russia was providing military intelligence to Iran up to and including the launch of Operation Epic Fury. When Iran became a “Chinese forward base,” Iran stopped being just a problem for Israel and became one for America. Do not discount this assessment.
Regime change, though difficult to achieve in Iran, will dramatically and adversely impact the economies of China, Russia, and North Korea while at the same time positively impacting the West.
Billions of dollars (including the \$46 billion gifted to Iran in the dead of night, flown on pallets of cash on a military transport flight courtesy of President Barack Hussein Obama) spent by Iran in funding acts of terror across the region can now be devoted to making life better for the Iranian people, who deserve a chance to live in freedom.
In a real sense, Operation Epic Fury, witnessed daily, is not confined to the Middle East. It is a global issue that concerns the stability and security of the entire world. For decades, terrorism and violence have impacted many countries. In times like these, leadership requires vision, planning, and courage. We are fortunate that President Trump is a man who understands history and whose background enables him to fully comprehend the intricacies of economics, international trade, and deal-making. But he is also a man who has the courage and conviction to take the necessary steps to match vision with accomplishment.
Now, let us turn our attention to our own backyard.
In Our Backyard
For the first time in my 80 years living in America, I am witness to Democratic Politicians more concerned about objecting to anything our President does, regardless of whether it is right or makes good sense. Today, as I write this editorial commentary, American sons and daughters are in harm’s way, waging military combat operations against a totalitarian regime responsible for death and destruction and the slaughter of its own people…and our Democratic politicians seem more concerned about denigrating President Trump and posturing for the midterm election cycle. I find this reprehensible. I am reminded of the words so eloquently expressed by Captain Stephen Decatur….” My country, may she always be in the right, but right or wrong, my country!”
Yesterday, I listened to Senator Chuck Schumer addressing the Senate: “Do you stand with the American people who are exhausted with forever wars in the Middle East or stand with Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth as they bumble us headfirst into another war?” Less than a year ago, Schumer was contemptuously suggesting “TACO Trump is already folding on Iran.” Now, today, attacking Iran is “immoral and illegal.” Then there is Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries bellowing in the House that “Trump and Republican extremists are spending billions to bomb Iran but have done nothing to bring down the cost of groceries.” Funny, I never heard Mr. Jeffries say anything about the $200 billion President Biden spent on supporting Ukraine… even though Biden’s policies sent grocery prices spiraling upward.
Where is the moral compass of these Democrats? Have they lost their ability to reason and think objectively? I honestly believe that if President Trump were to somehow develop a cure for pediatric cancer or a treatment for Alzheimer’s, Democrats would find fault with it! Where is their sense of honor? To me, it seems like their hatred for Donald Trump exceeds their love for our country, and that is a sad commentary on our government.
Finishing the Job
Operation Epic Fury is certainly not a bumble. And it is definitely not a “forever war”! Hell, we are only six days into the fight! In the first one hundred hours of OEF, US and Israeli jets hit over 2,000 Iranian targets, defended against thousands of Iranian drone attacks and ballistic missiles, destroyed thirty Iranian warships, and dismantled their uranium enrichment sites. In addition, US and Israeli warplanes eliminated over forty members of the top Iranian leadership, including the Supreme Ruler, the Ayatollah. We have more work to do, but once again, the brave men and women of our military have demonstrated their capabilities on the world stage. God bless our troops, and God bless the United States of America.
